ERP is ready… but why are Reports not Matching?
We recently provided our data migration expertise to a manufacturing company as they transitioned from an older system to a new ERP. Like most ERP projects, the challenge wasn’t the software—it was the data.
Here are some real issues we came across:
- Bills of Materials (BOMs) were incomplete or outdated
- General Ledger structure was not aligned with reporting needs
- Open AP & AR invoices had missing or wrong entries
- Vendor and customer records were duplicated
- Product codes were inconsistent, causing confusion across departments
With our deep experience in data migration, we consistently emphasize the importance of clean, structured data for a successful ERP implementation.
So, here’s what we did to fix the issues:
- Rechecked and rebuilt all BOMs
- Reorganised the chart of accounts and mapped it correctly to the new system
- Verified every open invoice before uploading
- Standardised item master, vendor, and customer records
- Ran multiple test uploads to catch errors before go-live
We made sure the system was not just running—but running with the right data.
What’s the Takeaway?
A successful ERP isn’t about just installing software. It’s about making sure your data is clean, correct, and ready.
If you are planning an ERP move, start with the basics. Fix the data first.
