ZATCA Extends Financial Penalty Relief
ZATCA: A Final Opportunity to Regularise Tax Compliance
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has extended its Financial Penalty Relief Initiative until 31 December 2026, giving businesses additional time to regularise outstanding tax obligations and obtain relief from certain financial penalties.
The initiative provides eligible taxpayers with an opportunity to resolve historical compliance issues relating to VAT, Withholding Tax, Excise Tax, Corporate Income Tax, and Real Estate Transaction Tax, provided the required conditions are met.
Relief Is Available, But Action Is Required
The initiative applies to penalties relating to late registration, late filing, late payment, and VAT return corrections. However, relief is not automatic. Businesses must submit outstanding tax returns, declare unpaid tax liabilities, and settle the principal tax due or obtain an approved instalment plan before the initiative expires.
Importantly, approved instalment plans can preserve the penalty relief beyond 31 December 2026, provided taxpayers continue to comply with the agreed payment schedule. Failure to maintain the plan may result in all previously waived penalties being reinstated.
Review Your Tax Position Early
Not every penalty falls within the scope of the initiative. Tax evasion penalties, penalties already paid, and certain other categories remain excluded.
Businesses should therefore use this opportunity to perform a comprehensive review of their historical tax position, identify outstanding obligations, and complete any corrective actions before the relief period ends.
